in bed this morning i checked my fb as always, and one of my former students posted that the art teacher at the middle school was just arrested and charged because he allegedly had sexual conversations with a minor. what the hell!? he's one of the nicest guys i've ever met. when my student went to prison a few years ago, he was the one who got us in contact, organized letters for the judge to hopefully reduce the kid's sentence, and started a book program so we could send gently used books to the prison since the library was really lacking. i had lunch with this guy almost every friday for 2 years. how could this happen? did he really do something malicious or was he just trying to give a kid some advice? though you may think it's inappropriate, kids have a lot of questions that they deserve answers to. one girl was too embarrassed to ask her mom about her "womanly" issues, so she asked me what was going on down there. she just had a yeast infection. but a conversation like that, overheard by the wrong person, then discovered by parents could be taken the wrong way. i just don't know. i'm really sad, though. this started my day off all wrong. |
