really great things are happening for boy. but he's so insecure and unsure of himself. he said that to me today as we were hugging in the kitchen while heating up last night's chow mein. he said, why am i being like this? i used to be so confident, and now i feel like i can't do anything right. i totally know the feeling. he will be working a lot more, for a long time into the foreseeable future. but MONEY. so much money. and you know what else? he's helping all of these people displaced by the storm. he's in construction, so you know, he's repairing their homes. people have been living in hotels and motels here for so long. it's weird and disorienting when i realize that just an hour away from here, entire towns are almost completely underwater. it's a disaster area. so sad. so he feels great that he is able to help these people go home and make some cash while he's at it. he said that while he was in this one house today, this old lady came in calling, "hello ...? hello ...?" and he says oh hi ma'am, i'm in here. and she says excitedly, "are you almost done?" and he laughs and says, unfortunately no, but i'm working as fast as i can. i know you want to get home. and she says, "oh it's okay son. we have to have patience through this." so he said that it really made him aware, and thankful for what he has today, because this little old lady's whole life has been turned upside down and her solution is simply, "patience." he said, "i think we have something to learn from that." this is why i love this man. i love that we can have conversations like this. |
