i would drive 150 miles and i would drive 150 more.

disappointing evening, but i guess it's okay to have those every now and then.

a couple weeks ago, we were driving through edison, and iselin, which are predominantly asian (all types, including indian) and indian towns respectively. it was almost like entering another country. we figured that if we wanted to find really great indian food, we should just start going to restaurants in those towns, crossing each one off the list as we go through them. while we were driving, we passed this one that was a standalone, not in a strip mall, that had all kinds of crazy neon lights in the windows and ALL of the trees outside were decorated in christmas lights. we joked that they probably thought they were super classy, even though the decor was hilariously tacky. he said, "i bet that's the best one around here though. i bet it is!" and we both agreed that all of those christmas lights are probably really expensive to keep lit all the time, so that must be a sign of prosperity.

today, i drove all the way up there, in stupid heavy traffic during rush hour, and we went immediately out to dinner. the place was just a name written on a piece of paper, and he said he took the initiative and chose for me because he knew we'd both take forever trying to decide what to get. i asked where he got the name from, and he said that he asked the indian guy in the krauzer's down the road what his favorite indian restaurant was, because he figured the guy would know. he said that place was the best, and very reasonably priced.

as we were just a few minutes away, i said, "hey. we were just here a couple of weeks ago!" and he's like, "oh yeah! on this same exact road!" then we look at each other and say, wouldn't it be hilarious if it was the christmas light place?

sure enough! we look ahead to the christmas light building, and the name is the same as the one on the paper. it was awesome. and the food! phenomenal. definitely as good as my favorite place, and i've been to many. we were both in a good mood, but i could tell he was super tired, so we headed to maggie moo's for some red velvet ice cream, then headed back to his house for fun.

he was so tired, however, that he was getting heavy lids driving home, and when we got in and i went to go to the bathroom, i returned to see that he was asleep already. he was so tired that he couldn't even make it through his customary bowl, and also fell asleep with a lit cigarette in his mouth, so i knew i should just go home. i really don't like fighting with him when he's really sleepy, and obviously if he was that sleepy he should SLEEP instead of forcing himself to stay awake just to fool around with me.

so unfortunately, i headed home kind of frustrated, but happy to have seen him at least. that twin bed is stupid anyway. we'll regroup this weekend. but i hate nights that end so abruptly. i wish i hadn't taken all of those nights we lived together for granted.
