purchase anxiety and me.
2011-04-04 @ 12:12 p.m.

random tidbit about me: i have intense purchase anxiety. i am one of those people who over-analyzes every single thing ever, and it becomes almost unbearable when it comes to buying stuff, especially stuff that i don't know a whole lot about that is only available online.

i love the fact that i can sit around on the couch and find information on this stuff in the privacy of my home, because usually this research involves me standing around awkwardly in a store, reading every single word on the back of the box or package. but it kills me that so much info is available online now, because i feel like i need to read it all to be able to make an informed decision. and then even when i feel that i've read it all, i get really anxious about actually making the purchase because i think that i've missed something better, or maybe i didn't research enough and the product isn't for me, etc etc forever.

this particularly applies when it comes to purchasing a food or supplement item, which is what prompted this entry in the first place. i wrote about how i'm going to start using meal replacements, so i started researching them, trying to find out which is the best for my personal needs, which has the most vitamins and minerals and whatnot, and which is the lowest calorie. i made my decision after like 3 days of looking, then i stumbled on forums and discussions and reviews where people recommended something comparable but different, and much cheaper. so then i started going off on that one, repeating the process, taking forever. i wanted to start this week, nice and fresh, but my failure to pull the trigger has pushed the plan back yet again.

it's so frustrating, and it's something that i am well aware of doing, but i can't stop. it's 70 degrees today and sunny, and i had planned on going to the bookstore, but instead i'm sitting here stressing over spending $100. i just want to be able to make a decision and not stress about it for days afterward.

completely unrelated: i have no idea what my neighbor is doing next door but it sounds like he's dragging a ginormous bureau or something of similar bulk across a wood floor, but for like, an hour. i wish i had known better when i bought this house to ask if i could get some soundproof insulation or something in the walls. live and learn.
