time well spent.

the weekend went almost exactly as planned, and was fantastic and wonderful and i am so happy.

the only thing that was out of sorts was the fact that saturday it was dark and gloomy and drizzling on and off, so we were scared to go on the bike ride because we didn't want to get stuck far away from the hotel in a downpour. (also, it was cold as hell down there! i know it's always like 10 degrees colder at the beach, but since our hotel was RIGHT on the beach, the breeze off of the ocean was a little much.) we stayed in and watched next friday and half of friday after next instead, which wasn't all bad because they're pretty funny.

a thunderstorm woke me up yesterday morning at about 7am, and i was really upset that it was going to ruin our day, so i went back to sleep. by 8:30 or so when i woke up (because boy, in his sleep, was trying to shove me out of the bed!), the rain had passed and it was simply poopy and overcast outside, so i figured we could still go to our second destination. i stood out on the balcony talking to my mom about how awesome the concert was the night before, and as we talked, the clouds moved aside, the sun started to shine, and the humidity gradually increased just enough that it was warm outside!

yesterday was the best day. we parked right next to the boardwalk and walked the oceanside town, then walked up a few blocks and enjoyed all of the little shops and restaurants. we bought a TON of candy, like salt water taffy and fudge (PB chocolate was like ... ohhhh man), and some weird things we've never seen before like coconut candy and flavored popcorn in a rainbow of colors.

we were going back to the car after this day of delight and happiness, and boy reached into his pocket to get the car keys, and they were totally gone. he started shitting bricks, all crazy mad, and i was like, really honey. calm the hell down. because what has freaking out ever done for anyone? so i calmly walked like half a block behind him back to the parking space, thinking of what our options were, and we could see the car so we knew it wasn't as terrible as it could be. he races across the street and looks in the window to see the keys sitting right there on the driver's seat, the car was unlocked, and every single item we had in the car was still there. i'm talking my $1400 DSLR, the wii, a ton of video games, all of our clothes and souvenirs and everything, untouched. all i had to say was, "aren't you glad we're in south jersey?" i always tell him the people aren't douchebags down here. it's so true!

our only issue the whole trip was a little tiff on saturday which arose as a result of a really rude comment he made. i was pretty pissed, so things were tense for an hour or so. he asked what was the matter with me, and i was like, really man? do you not realize what you just said? and he apologized, saying that he was trying to make a joke but it came out really awkwardly. he explained what he really meant, and then said, "there's nothing about you that i don't like. i really can't think of one thing." so of course that buttered me up like an ear of corn. communicating is so important to a relationship. as i get older and older, i realize it more and more. instead of sitting around stewing over something, blowing it up and making a huge deal about it, how about just telling your mate what you're upset about and why, and having them explain what they meant? so often it's just an issue of miscommunication, misunderstanding. instead of ruining the whole weekend, we only wasted about an hour, and it was when we were watching the friday movies anyway.

everything was good. now, there's a week ahead of us of nothing but thunderstorms, but the memories (and snacks!) from our amazing mini vacation will get us through it.
