i called this place the other day because it is a school, and it is nearby my home. their job posting just said, "admissions/sales," and instructed to call and speak to K for more information.

so i waited a little while before i called, because i don't know exactly what "admissions" means. i know what admissions officers generally do, i know what admissions coordinators generally do, and i know what admissions recruiters generally do. but which one is it? and like i said three times already, my knowledge of their responsibilities is extremely general. am i qualified to do it? would i need additional training? i consider these pretty important questions to be answered.

when i called K's number, i get some young sounding girl on the phone. i inquire as to whether the position is still open, and she says the thinks so. i asked if i could get any information about it, and she tells me to hold on. i am then transferred to the admissions department, to another girl. neither of these people are K, by the way. so i repeated my questions to the first girl to this one, since she had no idea why i had been transferred to her. she had no idea if the position was still open, and had to ask someone else (yelling the question to someone in the background), and then when i asked if she could give me any information about the position, she told me that if i came in and met with K, he'd answer any questions i had. alright, i thought that's what i was doing with this phone call, but whatever. so she says, "do you want an interview?" and i said no, i'd really just like to ask some questions about the position. she makes me an appointment for this morning at 10, but does not take my phone number. mkay.

so this morning i get dressed - nicely, but not in a suit or anything - and go over there. i introduce myself, and K says hi, are you here for an interview? and i said no, i just had a few questions about the position. i told him i was formerly a high school teacher, blah blah, looking for something different. so he says, did you bring a resume? and i said, no, because i wasn't sure as to what the job description was, so i wanted to just chat with you first to see if i'm even qualified. he then lists the three positions that are open, but me that i would need to schedule an interview to answer any questions i may have, and to bring a resume.

i was wondering if there was some kind of miscommunication between us, so i said, "to be honest, i just wanted to ask you about what exactly the position is." and he says, "that's what the interview is for." um ......... what? typically a candidate knows what the job description is before they go to the interview, so they know what the fuck they're interviewing for! i'm really not down with circle talk, so he reiterates that i need to come back with a resume to talk to him. at this point, i was just annoyed, so i said (jokingly), "is it a secret?" because why else would he be so evasive with me? how many different ways do i need to ask him what the job is? i've been on many a job interview and have always been told, at a bare minimum, the essential functions of the job to which i am applying. so he said, "it's no secret, and i'll be glad to answer any questions you may have at an interview." so then he took my name and number, which i almost didn't want to give him, and he said he'd call me on monday to schedule an interview.

um, thanks a lot, brah. not interested.
