why don't you have a seat right over there.

i just want to take a minute to talk about creeps. (dudes in particular, but i'm not denying or minimizing the existence of the female creep.)

not creepy: i'm walking out of the dmv today and this young dude holds the door for me. i smile and say thank you, and he smiles and says, "you're welcome. you look very nice today," and then goes on his way. why thank you, young man! unbeknownst to you, i'm old enough to be your mom but i appreciate the sentiment.

creepy: inside the dmv, down a few windows from the one i'm waiting at, there's a tall beautiful blonde who is clearly still in high school. two windows down from her, there's a dude who is clearly like 50 years old but is one of those guys who you just know is one of those people who shouts, "i'm 50 years YOUNG!" he starts loudly talking to her and joking with her about making a weird face in her picture and she politely laughs. now that he's engaged her, he starts getting louder and louder and is making all of these suggestive comments to her, laughing way too hard at himself, moving away from his counter as he talks, closer to her. dmv employee at the window can see how incredibly uncomfortable she is becoming and starts to try to talk to the guy and direct the conversation away from the girl, but the creepy dude is not having it. he's like, "so how old are you, honey?" dude, NO. i was done with my transaction and looked at the lady who was helping me and just said, "yikes." she had been watching, too, and just raised an eyebrow at me. ugh. i really hope this guy didn't follow the poor girl out, but i left before i got to see how it panned out.

suuuuuuuper creepy: checking out explore on insta. i see this post of a SUPER young looking girl where she's talking about her hair or something, and she has like over 200 comments on the post. this girl looks to be about 12. i go to her page to see why a girl this age has an insta and so many followers, and it turns out she's an actress on nick or disney or something but is definitely 13 years old. i start reading the comments out of morbid curiosity, mostly because the creeper from the dmv was still fresh in my mind and i wondered if dudes were being inappropriate with THIS girl who is very obviously a child.

most of the comments on the hair pic were reasonable, like oh you're so cute! great hair! good job! cool! but there's this one dude who, by the looks of his profile pic is in his mid-twenties at least, has commented 10 times that i can see (i didn't scroll ALL the way up through all 200+ of them). he starts out telling her wow! and how beautiful she is, then it devolves into i love you! and then he continues on to tag her and ask her repeatedly if she has a kik, and then later on writes this whole paragraph about how she should really start responding to her followers who ask her questions because they might start to think that she's rude and will feel disrespected, so she should really start responding so they don't feel ignored. this guy made it clear that by, "her fans" he really meant himself. let me reiterate that this girl is literally 13 years old, but looks younger.

dude, wtf? i don't understand how guys like this don't take even a MINUTE to step back and think, "if some adult, grown ass man was sending my 13 year old daughter messages like this, would i be mad?" or, "am i coming off as kind of a crazy weirdo right now?" seriously. i am pretty thick-skinned. i have taken in stride a lot of comments that were solidly over the line into sexual harassment. honestly, that kind of shit really just doesn't bother me. i'm like, "naw, brah," and that's usually the end of it. but this? this really fucking disturbed me. she is a little kid! as rapey as the dude in dmv was today, instacreep was full-on "to catch a predator." it freaks me out that this person is out there, mingling in our common areas, thinking that there is absolutely nothing wrong with aggressively hitting on middle schoolers.

sorry for this rant, but some people really just need to stop doing everything they're doing.
